BACK 2 BACK TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!

Memorial Day weekend provided action and excitement as the Fastbreakers won both age divisons during the Swoops Academy May Day tournament. As the defending Champions from last year, the Fastbreakers decided this year to have two teams in the tourney to defend and capture both trophies in the respectable U-14 & U-16 divisions.

FASTBREAKERS FINISHED 2-0 DURING THE ELITE 8 SHOWCASE

During the Elite 8 at Camelback HS / The Fastbreakers took picyures with a couple of long time friends and supporters (ABOVE PIC) 2010 ELITE 8 MVP Compton Magic PG - Jahii Carson - Mesa H.S with "Fastbreakers PG" Isaiah Lopez - Agua Fria H.S / (BELOW PIC) Arizona State University signee (Carick Felix) with Fastbreakers Coach SimonPhipps.

Special thanks goes out to Ron Coleman for inviting the Fastbreakers to his 1st class Southwest Showcase Spring Championship tournament / 2-2 was our record / we finished 5th out of 28 teams in the U-16 division. Losing to the Las Vegas Dogcatchers but also getting convincing victories against the Celtics & AZ Stars - Hamilton. The club season has begun and some players are still returning from their high school's track season. But we are commited to becoming better and better with every player and every game, so by the end of this summer, we will be as good as any team in the state.

2009-2010 Agua Fria JV Basketball team that finished the season Undefeated 18-0 . While sometimes starting five freshmen and defeating teams spanning from Saguaro , P.Valley, Apollo, Bradshaw Mountain, Greenway, Desert Edge, Sunrise Mtn. and THEIR OWN conference high schools. The Fastbreakers are a championship team, put together by Coach Simon Phipps, in which in the best talent of young men were selectedand trained to become great performers, on & off the court. The Fastbreakers fierce style of play on both ends of the court makesevery opponent BEWARE! And, their following (CROWD!!!) to every game, gives the Fastbreakers home court advantage in any gymnasium. If you have never witnessed a Fastbreakers game before, you must see the excitement and passion these young players posses!

THE COACH
"He could go...ALL THE WAY!"

In addition to his commitment to the Fastbreakers, Coach Simon Phipps (originally from Chicago, IL) currently coaches the JV basketball team and is the assistant coach to the varsity team at Agua FriaHigh School in Avondale, AZ. During his first year, the JV team held the best record in their conference and the boys varsity team made it to the final championship. Currently, his JV team is undefeated this year and will be ready for a state title run for the 2010-2011 Varsity season. After having played college basketball on scholarship at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA, as a starting point guard and being coached by a 10 year NBA veteranJohn Block, Simon continued on, playing professional international basketball in Israel, worked as a camp coach assistant with Bill Westphal (Older brother of Former Phoenix Suns and current NBA Sacramento Kings Head Coach Paul) became a camp counselor, performed and trained with the Harlem Globetrotters in the summer of 2000. While completing hisMasters degree in Psychology at the University of Phoenix in 2009.Simon has been coaching youth YMCA teams for 10 years and was named the 2008 National N.B.A Jr.Suns Coach of the Year for the YMCA. He and his team, were honored by playing during half time on the Suns court during the fall of 2008. Now, Coach Phipps has turned his YMCA team into a competitive clubteam and intends to take his team on the road locally and nationally to compete and win club tournaments.
